Hi, I’m Dr. Sarina Harman-Tinnel from HT Complete Family Dentistry in Overland Park, KS, and today I want to talk to you about Invisalign treatment. Invisalign clear aligners are one of the most popular treatment options we offer our patients both for bite correction and straightening crooked or otherwise misaligned teeth.
Why patients love Invisalign
One of the things our patients love about Invisalign is how convenient it is. There are no wires or brackets to worry about, they are removable and discreet, and there are no food restrictions. What’s not to love about that?
Getting started with Invisalign is easy, too. It all starts with a digital scan of your mouth here in our office during your free new patient consultation. The scan is quick, painless, and there’s no messy impression putty or uncomfortable dental trays. We can even show you how amazing your actual smile will look after treatment!
Once the digital scanning is done, we’re able to send that off to the clinical staff at Invisalign and work with them virtually to make sure that you have the smile of your dreams.
Invisalign does more than just straighten teeth
When most people think of Invisalign, they think, “Oh it’s those clear plastic trays that straighten teeth.” While that is true, it is also a very simplistic view of how Invisalign can benefit your overall oral health.
One thing we’ve started to notice in our community is that there are some other oral health issues that are associated with crowded teeth. The challenge is that a lot of times we don’t see why the teeth are crowded. Some research has shown that sometimes it’s the tongue habit, the myofunction – or muscle function – of the tongue that doesn’t allow the teeth to grow in the right spots, and it starts out young. That’s why Dr. Prinz and I are very passionate about helping our young patients get to the point where their teeth come in properly.
Lip placement and/or tongue placement can be contributing factors too, which is why we work with our local myofunctional therapists and our hygienists have gone through extensive training on the myofunctional therapy component in order to benefit our patients.
If you’re an adult with airway issues – you’ve started to snore, you’re not breathing through your nose as well as you used to, or you’re not feeling rested after a night’s sleep – some of these can be taken into account during your Invisalign consultation so that we can make sure we’re optimizing your airway while we do your treatment. So not only are you killing two birds with one stone, but you’re getting the best – and sometimes quickest – care at an affordable price.
