In the past decade there has been a dramatic interest in cosmetic dentistry. We all realize that having a healthy, bright, beautiful smile enhances our appearance and allows us to smile with confidence. Thanks to the advances in modern cosmetic dentistry, we are able to improve our teeth and smiles with quick, painless and surprisingly affordable treatments.
Many times teeth are too small, crowded/spaced, in poor alignment, discolored or have general undesirable esthetics. Veneers are a way to mask many of these problems. They do require a small amount of tooth reduction, but not as aggressive as crowns do, and are permanently cemented in place. They are made of all porcelain and are very thin. They can change a patient’s smile in just a matter of hours, rather than years of orthodontics or many whitening procedures. Not everyone is a candidate for veneers, but sometimes full crowns are possible instead, especially in tetracycline stained teeth.
Bondings are good alternatives to veneers, but not as long lasting. Bondings can change a person’s smile quickly as well as veneers, using a tooth colored filling material. Bonding requires a minimal amount of tooth removal and can mask light staining, crowding or spaces. Bondings are often a good option for teens or young adults in order to be very conservative. Bonding can only be used in limited instances, but where bonding is not useful, veneers are usually an option.
Whitening can usually be accomplished with the use of either take home trays or in office visits. Carbamide or hydrogen peroxide is used to whiten the teeth without damaging the enamel surface. Bleaching is a popular process due to the ease of use and decreased possibility of sensitivity.

A cosmetic consultation can be provided at no charge for any new or existing patient. The consultation will include a discussion with the patient about their expectations, concerns, and overall desires. The doctor will then be able to make a treatment plan and go over fees and a timeline with the patient. Photos and models may be taken to aid the dentist in completing the cosmetic consultation.
