No Cavity Club
Unique to our office, is the No Cavity Club. We like to celebrate with our kids the joys of no cavities. So to incentivize the kids to brush, we will give each kid a gift card to use as they wish, but they must have 4 consecutive no cavity visits! Examples are iTunes, Sonic and Pizza Hut. You should see how happy this makes the kids!!
A thin, clear protective coating placed on the chewing surfaces of permanent teeth. The sealant is usually placed between the ages of 6-14 years when children’s permanent first and second molars are erupting and susceptible to decay. The sealant flows deep into the grooves of molars and protects from decay.
Fluoride is a tooth strengthening mineral. Fluoride is used frequently on children’s fragile teeth during their cleanings. Fluoride is in drinking water, toothpaste and helps to prevent decay. Fluoride treatments are given in a varnish application. Be mindful of brushing teeth at the end of the day because the fluoride is sticky and may harden a toothbrush. Sometimes patients are given a prescription for a fluoride toothpaste, called Prevident to help remineralize softened tooth structure and fight cavities in both adults and children.
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)
This material allows for the dentist to place in order to remineralize or save severely decayed teeth. This material needs to be placed in baby teeth that we are not sure of the restorability of, or if there are multiple areas of decay. The material will turn the decay black, as to seal it off from additional bacteria/decay. The SDF will be placed sometimes 2 times within a year period and sometimes a filling can be placed upon it.
